Why do people throw tennis shoes over power lines?

1.there is a gang at that area


2.drugs are sold there


3.someone was killed there'


4.a bully threw some kids shoe up the line
Reply:I don't know....one year some boys took my daughters and threw them up there and they hung there for years.....every year for the fourth of July we would go to the park and there they were.....and every year people would say....look, some ones tennis shoes are up there.....we never admitted to who's they were, we just chuckled and walk right on by.

Reply:Around here, it means that there is a crack house in business in the area.
Reply:The tennis shoes over the power lines thing was originally started by street gangs as a way to mark territorial borders. Of course the shoes would be that gangs colors. In some instances they were also used as part of initiations (had to removes a rival gang members shoes and get them up there... sounds easier than it is im sure).
