I just bought these Coach tennis shoes and what kind of cleaner should I use to clean them?

Coach makes a leather cleaner and that is what I would use because it's from Coach and stuff.

How do you recognize better tennis shoes? Which qualities do you look for?

torsion - try holding the heel and twisting the toes this will tell you if your going to roll an ankle.

stitching along where the sole meets the leather - stitching lasts longer than just glue...

How do you recognize better tennis shoes? Which qualities do you look for?
usally you would look for a stable sole and good arch support. you also need very good ankle support, remember you get what you pay for.

Is it fashionable to wear tennis shoes with jeans?

It use to be several years ago. Is that back in fashion?

Is it fashionable to wear tennis shoes with jeans?
sure, why not :)

i don't like actual athletic shoes and all. but some simple sneakers are cute.

is just depends on what style/wash of jeans. for instance, skinny jeans + tennis shoes don't really look good together, most of the time.

personally, i just prefer flats and flip flops!
Reply:I like the way you phrase it....and i quote:"It USE to BE SEVERAL YEARS AGO..."Dont think its back in fashion...not my style anyways..especially not on girls...if it happens that a girl maybe cant afford nicer shoes,i know they are expensive, nice sandles will do just fine.

Is it best to store tennis shoes in their original boxes or leave them out of the boxes?

If they are made of leather it is best to store them in the cardboard box they came in or in nothing at all. Cardboard still breathes so it's okay, but plastic shoe organizers can store moisture which will cause mold on a natural material.

Is it better to wash tennis shoes in the washing machine or in the dishwasher?

What would be the best cycle to put them on?

Is it better to wash tennis shoes in the washing machine or in the dishwasher?
Dishwasher?? i think im going to try that
Reply:i jst wash them in the washer machine.. i've not heard of the dishwasher... hmmmm. But my mom did it %26amp; so have i. U may want to wash them w/ heavier clothes, rags things like that so they don't bounce around too mch. I usually use the gentle cycle. then i lay them in the sun to dry.
Reply:I usually do them in the washing machine, I hadn't thought about the dishwasher.

I usually put them on the 40c synthetics cycle
Reply:I would not put clothing in the dishwasher. I would think that shoes should not be washed in hot water. A dishwasher normally washes with 160+ degrees water. That's hot.

Also, a dishwasher is not designed for clothing, neither is dishsoap. Dishsoap is not the same as laundry soap. It wouldn't get clothes very clean. Dish soap gets dishes clean, but it is not designed to get clothes clean.

So, here's the best idea I've heard: take an old pillow case, put your shoes in it, and tie the end shut like a bread bag. Then, the shoes won't get ruined as much. Use the gentle cycle because shoes do get beat up in the washer.

I've never tried the pillowcase idea though.
Reply:Definitely the washing machine. Depending on what they're made of, you probably don't want to put them in the dryer, though. Put some shoe trees in them and leave them to dry on a windowsill or someplace with lots of sun and fresh air circulating.
Reply:I prefer the washing machine. Don't put in dryer. set them in from of the refrigerator and they Will dry overnight.
Reply:Wow I have never heard of using the dishwasher to wash shoes before...

I think the washing machine is best, but I prefer the good old handwash way.

Should I play basketball in tennis shoes?

What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Should I play basketball in tennis shoes?
It really is ok to play in tennis shoes if they have good support. thats really all that matters, becuase with good suporrt you avoid shin splints and flat feet which slow you down and are painful. but the disadvantage of tennis shoes is that they dont have the specialized grip for the court on the bottom such as basketball shoes do. another factor that you may like is the looks of the shoe. if your going for that,, basketball shoes such as jordans or T-macs or the kobes will be great and make sure ppl take a double look. but all that matters most is the support. you can also buy shoe inserts for that
Reply:be better than combat boots!

lol
Reply:no should wear basketball shoes because they are specialized for b-ball and tennis shoes are specialized for tennis so wear b -ball shoes
Reply:I recommend basketball shoes as well, mainly because tennis shoes don't give you the ankle support you need when you are playing basketball. One false step or cross- over and you can twist your ankle. And you don't want that to happen, do you?

How do I clean suede tennis shoes? Are there any household products that can be used?

suede leather should be cleaned with a fine brass brush. if you get a kit at a shoe store the kit should come with the brass brush, and nap brush and a cleaning stone. depend on what you're trying to clean off. if it dirt/mud use the brush. after clean the shoes spray with a suede/nubuck rain and stain protector. this may sound weird but also try a little scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner..it the same product as shoe cleaners.

use a stiff bristle brush with some soapy water (dawn) do not over wet that's the only way i have done it . the make several different products you can buy check out wall mart (shoe dept.) that might be the best way if they are expensive shoes

Which brand is better for tennis shoes?

preferly between nike and adidas

Which brand is better for tennis shoes?
There are a lot of variables in choosing a proper shoe. Are you actually using these shoes to play tennis? If so, you might want to consider Wilsons because they have a better sole for playing on a tennis surface. However, if you just want athletic shoes to wear for everyday walking, etc., base your decision on your own foot. If you have a high arch, then Nike is probably better. Adidas are flatter so they are the better brand for flat footed folks like myself! If you're going to be putting lots of mileage on your shoes and doing a lot of competitive running, you might want to consider Brooks shoes. Though, again, these are tough on us flat-footed "soles." Go to an athletic shoe specialty store and don't be afraid to try on as many pairs as you like and walk around the store! Good luck!

Do they still call them "tennis shoes"?

Trainers is a name one hears a lot in England. Gum-shoes was once used. Baskets is used in France, derived from Basquettes, I like to think, rather than basketball, but who knows? Tackies in South Africa, jong, or sand-shoes among the rooineks in Durban and the South Coast.

Do they still call them "tennis shoes"?
Yes, I still do. And I don't play tennis.
Reply:no
Reply:Some Southerners do. I am from the North and moved down south several years ago. We called them sneakers. So when people called them "tennis shoes" down here, I thought tennis as in the sport. So I was very confused at first. But if we went to a store and asked where the "sneakers" were, no one had any idea what we were talking about. Now we just call them "shoes."
Reply:yea I still use that when talking with older folks, but if I am talking with my friends. It's gym shoes.
Reply:Depends on what "them" is! There are certain types of shoes that I might refer to as tennis shoes, but if you are referring to general run of the mill sneakers such as made by Nike or Reebok or whoever, then nope!
Reply:I use the terms pretty much interchangeably, although I'm more apt to write "sneakers" because it's faster to type!

What does it mean for tennis shoes to be thrown across power lines in front of road ways?

Most people have many misconceptions about this and don't really know what it means. So its about time this old G schools some of you young pups out there about the burbs. In the Barrio, a pair of colored Nikes would let a rival gang know that they are entering anothers turf. It was also a way for drug dealers to communicate by saying don't push your stuff on my users. Since then, you get young kids throwing up shoes of every style just because they are copying what they see. Gangs don't just throw them up at random to mark their territory like some damn road sign. They do so only after a confirmed sighting by someone they trust. Well the real gangs anyway, not the school yard cliques. This message tells the real gangs that if we catch you movin' in on our turf-- your going down! I could tell you a lot more about how things work, and how shot callers make decisions but that would be divulging more 411 than you need to know.

What does it mean for tennis shoes to be thrown across power lines in front of road ways?
It means an adolescent with an unwanted pair of sneakers and nothing better to do was previously in the neighborhood.

Why do kids throw old tennis shoes over the telephone wires on the street?

because they are ghetto and do not care about how their neighborhood looks.

Why do kids throw old tennis shoes over the telephone wires on the street?
In hood culture (as with any other culture) there are things people do to symbolize growth and development into the next stage of life. The shoes over the power lines represented multiple things depending on where you were. In Chicago some people throw the shoes of people who the victims of gang violence over the wire to symbolize them passing away and in Miami when a child outgrew their old sneakers they would toss those over the wire to let everyone know they grew up. A lot of the explanations of course would be urban legend and vary from hood to hood and person. If you wanna know what it means somewhere where you are find someone who is willing to let you know.
Reply:This ritual is yet another tradition, bastardized by ignorance.

Back in the day, throwing the shoes on the wires happened when:

1. When people with any type of major street cred died or moved.

2. When a rival gang member killed someone in your gang, they would use that as a message.

These days, people just do it out of ignorance. Basically, the Hip Hop culture needs to be carefully taught. There is so much rich culture to be learned.

That's how I feel

Do you wear your tennis shoes without socks? Why?

no because i am a very sweaty person and my shoes would stink. i can barely go without a bra because my boobs get so sweaty.

Do you wear your tennis shoes without socks? Why?
well first of all, it's uncomfortable.

second, my feet get really sweaty and start to stink
Reply:With to avoid blisters
Reply:No, because I don't want the inside of my sneaks to smell. I wear a half sock most of the time.
Reply:No, but I do wear footsies with them and only when I'm wearing shorts. I won't wear them without socks because it's hot here and I sweat, which makes for stinky shoes. I've never liked the appearance of socks with shorts...don't know why.
Reply:I always wear my tennis shoes without socks. I hate wearing socks, and it is more comfortable not to wear socks.
Reply:Yes I do. I do it mainly because I love how sneakers look worn with just bare ankle showing, and also with some sneakers it is comfortable.

I used to go without socks all the time. I hardly ever wore any in my teen and early-mid twenties. Actually there was a time I didn't own any.

Most of the time now I wear no show socks. I'm very picky with them though, they can't show at all. I've bought some that claim to be no show and still show like an inch out of the shoe.
Reply:I wear them with socks for the following reasons

They are more comfortable that way. Less likely to get blisters. Socks absorb persperation so your shoes don't get so stinky
Reply:I used to wear tennis shoes without socks when I was like 7. I hated socks at the time.

Should I use my tennis shoes for running?

well, should i? why? =) thanks in advance!

Should I use my tennis shoes for running?
If they're comfortable, go ahead.

A lot depends on the surface you run on. Try to run on trails or grass, or failing that a rubber track. Concrete is the worst (harder than asphalt, for example).

Pay very careful attention to any symptoms you develop. Don't run through pain.
Reply:no, it doesnt have enough cushion for running
Reply:No absolutly not.

A tennis shoe is not a running shoe if you're going to take up running you should invest in a good pair of running shoes.

Running shoes provide the best protection for your feet, legs and body from the repeated stress of thousands of foot landings per mile. Each time you take a stride and land, your foot has to absorb two to three times your body weight. This repeated impact is different from other sports. Running shoes have built-in features that enable you to run day after day more comfortably and with less chance of over-use injury. Preferably bought in a shop that can guide you in buying the correct shoe for you. Depending on your running patern and your feet there are different kind of running shoes.
Reply:no thats bad for your feet use running shoes
Reply:Well tennis shoes are ok.. but they can somewhat mess up your shins depending on what surface you run on.

Your best bet is to get a inexpensive running shoe that good for jogging and running during free time.

If your going to be in races I would also get spikes.. because they are light weigh and help you grip the surface better.
Reply:you could but you should really go buy yourself a good pair of running shoes,,,you will be much better off with them,..they make them specific for running.....and they don't really cost much and lots of great styles to choose from ,.....
Reply:If your running consists of many miles a day of hard running maybe not depending on how well they are built. But if you are a casual runner/jogger I think it will be fine. Even though there are shoes designed for every conceivable activity I find basketball and tennis shoes offer the most comfort.

Why are schools banning tennis shoes with wheel in back?

Thats dumb. Let kids be kids.

Why are schools banning tennis shoes with wheel in back?
There are two reasons:

Safety of the students.

Cleaning the wheel marks can cause undo janitorial duties which presents a cost to the school district.
Reply:Kids keep hurting themselves...no one wants the liability.
Reply:I believe I saw somewhere that there has been a rash of injuries since those shoes came out. Not just typical bumps and bruises, but broken limbs, cracked heads, and even broken necks. It's not dumb, it's safe.
Reply:Plain %26amp; Simple - SAFETY!!! Supermarkets and retail stores are doing the same. In school for instance, if a child is not paying attention or another kid is horsing around near a staircase...guess what - down they go and it could be very serious. As a parent, who would you blame - honestly???
Reply:I just read the other day that a lot of kids are hurting themselves on them. I think it said in 2006 that close to 1200 kids got hurt on them and one died but it didnt give specifics.
Reply:it's because, if they allow it at school and a stupid kid trys a stunt and crashes. if they get hurt, like a broken bone, then the school can be held liable. that's the only reason i can think of.
Reply:Check the statistics! Do you have any idea how many kids have been hurt/killied by wearing these in unsafe places. I agree let kids be kids. I have 3. Relax there is a new alternative , removable wheels for tennis shoes. Besides school isn't the best place for skating .We send our kids to school to get an education and not in skating. They can learn that in their free time. Also the school can also be held responsible for any accidents that happen while a child is wearing them.
Reply:It's because it's considered a hazard, and some kids are not coordinated enough to use them and get hurt, there have been a couple of kids who broke their ankles and their parents tried to sue the company... the school is basically baning them for liability purposes if the kid was using them and fell on the sidewalk or whatever the school would be held responsible.
Reply:Do you have kids? Like the last person said, clean up costs and above all, it's a safety issue. It's the same as letting kids wear roller blades to school- kids are supposed to walk, and go to school to learn. It's not a skate park.

What causes white canvas tennis shoes to turn yellow after washing? Drying in the sun?

its not the sun, it is something that has been used in the manufacture. I have a pair of shoes that seem to "seep", and it says on the label not to wash

What causes white canvas tennis shoes to turn yellow after washing? Drying in the sun?
What causes that is the detergent that you used, it may contain clorox. this what causes the yellow color
Reply:A good soaking in a strong solution of oxi-clean should do the trick. Soak for at least 3-4 hours.

Which are the best tennis shoes?

by brand...I was thinking about buying puma but im not sure. thanks

Which are the best tennis shoes?
1. Nike

2. Oasics

3. Puma

*I would recommend Nike because I've played Tennis and my tennis shoes were Nike. It's really good for running and moving around while you are trying to get to the ball.
Reply:Nikes!
Reply:K-swiss definitely.
Reply:Nikes are good for running

Keds are good 4 Cute shoes
Reply:entirely depends on you and your foot. my mom swears by Ascics and Saucony. I love Brooks. My brother swears by Nike. Go to a running store. The best shoes I have ever bought came from a running store. They know foot mechanics and what shoe should fit you the best.

Reply:I LOVE Pumas! I got a really cute pair for my birthday, mine are called Lab II and are light blue with a light pink puma sign. They are probably the most comfortable tennis shoes I've ever owned. I also like Nike for running and Tretorn if you just want cute preppy tennis shoes.
Reply:brand doesnt matter, it depends as to which brand at the moment produces the good shoes - and not because the name is popular. People have different feet soles shape and that too determines the type of shoe shape and material your feet needs. Although you dont need to go into much detail if youre not that serious about the game. Go head over the store, get those shoes that catches your eyes, try em on and see if your comfortable. Try walking with it and see if you feel good balance while wearing it. Oh, dont forget to wear socks :D

How do you wash tennis shoes in the washer?

I suggest you don't do it. No matter what you do, you risk ruining your shoes. When I was a kid, my mom tried washing my shoes in the washing machine and letting them air dry, and they shrunk so much where it was uncomfortable to wear. Plus, they don't hold their shape once you've washed them in the washer. It's best to clean your shoes by hand. Sof Sole Instant Cleaner is a great shoe cleaner. Its a spray on foam and the cap has a built in scrub brush, so you just scrub it to remove the excess dirt and gunk and wipe it off. It's easy and it works well.

How do you wash tennis shoes in the washer?
Put them in a pillow case and then wash some towels w/ them so the washer doesn't get out of balance.
Reply:Every pair of tennis shoes I've owned for the last 10 years have been machine washable. I had a pair of soft leather Reeboks one time that didn't wash well, but other than that one pair, I've never had a problem just throwing them in the washer with some light colored towels (if they are white) or jeans (for the darker shoes). I hang mine outside to dry, but if you can't do that, they will dry in a couple of days in the house.
Reply:I take the shoe laces out and wash them on a gentle cycle.
Reply:I just throw mine in with either the white clothes or towels depending on whether or not I*m using bleach. I don*t throw them in the dryer though in case they may shrink.

I just put them on top of the dryer for a few days and let them air dry. If you have safe back porch you could put them out there, I don*t because mine is open and I don*t want some stray dog carrying my shoes off.

You can buy specialist sneaker cleaners, but I find that toothpaste and a stiff brush works well. Makes then smell better too.

How can you airbrush tennis shoes with them cracking?

Yes, you should be able to airbrush them. I know that several places offer airbrushing on tennis shoes. I guess as long as you are't rough and don't wear the shoes everywhere all the time, the paint should last a long time on them. Just take care of them.

I imagine they spray something on it to "set" the paint so it "locks" onto the item you are spraying it on. Since I have no experience with this medium I am only guessing--I'm going on the idea of shirts being airbrushed--they last through the washes.

How can you airbrush tennis shoes with them cracking?
I've never air brushed, but I paint my tennis shoes with normal fabric paint and then heat set them with a hairdryer. They work out fine and wear out before the paint changes. Don't know if fabric paint will go through an airbrush.

What is the significance of the tennis shoes /basketball shoes thrown up to wrap around the telephone wires ?

When I was a kid (long time ago) on the last day of school we would take our old sneakers out of our gym lockers and throw them in the lines while walking home.

What is the significance of the tennis shoes /basketball shoes thrown up to wrap around the telephone wires ?
I have heard that this symbolizes a drug house near by- or territory of a gang.
Reply:I always was told it meant that drugs were sold in that area, if not directly below it.
Reply:For spanish speaking people means "I quit". We even have a figure of speech: Ex: He hung up his snickers. (Also gloves, as a boxer)
Reply:Over the years there have been many explanations for this, from gang activity to drug related beacons. Many of the more common explanations are listed in the link I will include at the bottom.

However, I also feel that it has over the years become different on a place by place basis. While nobody can claim for sure at this point, I can say without a doubt that kids these days have more reasons than those you will find on webpages.

In the urban districts of my city, for example, it has become common practice to hang the shoes of a deceased teenager following an ecstacy overdose following the increase of MDMA usage in Ontario over the last decade.
Reply:You know, I was wondering the same thing. Every time I go to visit my grandparents I pass through this little area of town and the fire department is out there getting a pair of shoes down with their ladder truck. I have always wondered that as well, I will have to check back to see what everyone else says...

Can you wear white tennis shoes before Memorial day?

You can wear white tennis shoes 12 months a year, 24/7 if you want.

There used to be a rule that you could only wear white shoes (regular shoes) between Memorial Day and Labor Day. However, the people who dictate fashion have come out with "winter white", and that seems to have changed things.

The old rules no longer apply. Wear white shoes whenever it pleases you.

Can you wear white tennis shoes before Memorial day?
Yes

Reply:Of course - the "no wearing white after Labor Day" is an old cliche' that was a "dressing rule" of the very wealthy. It was used as a way to separate them from the "lower classes". Eventually it became a non-issue. Wear white if and when you feel like it.

YES YOU CAN! I do it all the time, its okay. Put them on gentle though so they wont crack! You can also put them in a pillow case to protect them. Just tie it up! Hope this helps, good luck! Be blessed!!!!!
Reply:No, I wouldn't wash leather tennis shoes in the washer. They're going to start cracking if you do.

Mild soap and water should clean them off nicely. After wards, polish them with a nice paste. Then buff them to a shine.

For the odor inside, spray a little Febreeze in them and let them dry before your son wears them. They'll be good as new!
Reply:Usually there is a tag on the shoes that let you know if you can. Otherwise, why not go the the manufacturer's website and see. Or send them an email and ask.
Reply:so can wash them by using a toothbrush and a common day soap mixed with a little bit of shampoo. Srcub the outside. For the inside , wash with bleach and let it dry under the sun for a day or so. Then wax the leather for that brand new shine

How come the Nike Tennis shoes don't have a first version like the Nike Vapor III and IVs or Air Max Breathes?

Also, are the air max breathe free II better or adidas barricade IVs

How come the Nike Tennis shoes don't have a first version like the Nike Vapor III and IVs or Air Max Breathes?
Heck, with the right marketing, Nike and Adidas could sell 30 year old designs with different colors and names and go for another 10 years.
Reply:They did. They just need to sell more so they make minor updates and change the number (I, II, III, etc.) IMHO, I liked the original models best!!
Reply:I'm not sure I understand the question, but Nike did have a first version of the Breathe Free's and of the Vapor, they just made new versions and thus stopped producing the older versions (except for the Breathe Free 2's, and they were kept on board because the Breathe 3's weren't selling as well because they were more narrow in the midfoot) They also have the Breathe Free Cage, which I find to be as great as the Breathe 2, but actually better because the opening for your foot to slide in is just a little bit larger. As far as the first Vapor shoe, it was maybe the best version out of the Vapor series (Maria Sharapova still wears them, but Nike isn't happy about it) you might be able to find them online. To answer your second question, I'd have to say that I like the Breathe Free's better than the Adidas. The Nike's are lighter, I think they are more comfortable and less stiff, but the Adidas are better on durability (which is why they are heavier and stiffer), and I also think that the Nike's look cooler (not that it matters to your tennis game) Good Luck!

What are the best tennis shoes for comfort, support, and shock protection?

I work retail so I am on my feet at least 8hrs a day and I also work out. I have tried several different types but my feet are in so much pain!!!!! I know there are a lot of new products out there but I don't want to buy something just because it is the "in thing" at the moment. But if it is a really great product, then I will pay good money. So any opinions or personal prefrences would be great:)

What are the best tennis shoes for comfort, support, and shock protection?
I know running shoes, so I'll speak to that. Most good running stores have guys and gals that know shock absorption and fit pretty well. I go to Dick Pond's. I have no idea where you live, of course.

Brooks Beast comes highly recommend from the big guys I know, my 6'3" 240# son included. No idea if they have women's sizes in that model. They probably wouldn't call a woman's shoe "Beast", but there is likely an equivalent.

Most brands have a 'high impact' model or two.

Why Kind Of Sneakers/Tennis Shoes Do Preps Wear?

What brands and style, Im talking about the abercrombie/hollister/aeropostale type prep not the I-Zod kind. Pics would be a plus. Thanks.

Why Kind Of Sneakers/Tennis Shoes Do Preps Wear?
Well it kinda depends on the environment but most of them are pretty athletic so they wear Nikes.

http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/imag...

Tennis shoes they don't ever wear the classics.
Reply:I have lots of sneakers but I usually wear my purple %26amp; orange Nike Shox. i also sometimes wear my pink and green (watermelon colors) nike tennis shoes too. Sometimes I wear my coach tennis shoes too. (you can see them at www.coach.com if you click on the shoes section!)

hope this helps. gotta go do a quick run to abercrombiee.
Reply:Pumas, or (clean) converse all stars...in a plaid pattern maybe.
Reply:I see a lot of Puma shoes that are popular with the Preps, also Nike Dunks, but I only see those mostly on guys.

Something I see a lot for the girls (because they play sports and stuff) are plain white original Adidas shoes, not the athletic kind, the originals in white or with pink or purple or something like that. I see plain and clean black or pink converse popular too, but not the beat up kinds.

Women: What type of casual shoes (other than white tennis shoes) look good on a guy?

Most anything black fits well. Recently I saw a Tara Banks special and she had the "hottest" (according to her) guys on stage. They all had black casual shoes on with jeans. Especially if you have a black leather jacket. I live in a big town, and guys with hip shoes really get a second glance from us gals.

Why do people throw tennis shoes on to the power lines?

don't know.

But there is a place in milltown, indiana ( way south) called The Shoe Tree and it is covered with thousands and thousands and thousands of shoes!!! no kidding! We've been going there for years and always throw an old pair in the tree, it's a landmark around there!

Why do people throw tennis shoes on to the power lines?
to mark where a drug house is.

Should I use my tennis shoes for running?

well, should i? why? =) thanks in advance!

Should I use my tennis shoes for running?
I don't have much experience with tennis shoes but from looking at a photo i can tell they are loosely relative to basketball shoes. My point is, they are excellent for smoothe surfaces but running shoes are great for unbalanced surfaces. I guess if you were jogging on a sidewalk then it wouldn't matter but it's best to use running shoes when you're out on grass/dirt rodes etc. Hope this helps and goodluck :)
Reply:No! Please, no! I used to work in an athletics store, court-based shoes (basketball, squash, tennis etc) are too inflexible, and are made for protecting ankles and feet from sideways movements - they're terrible for running! And 'cross-trainers' are a joke too! Runners or nothing (seriously, running barefoot on grass every now and then is a good idea).
Reply:You should use you're running shoes.

If you're serious abouth running I would even recomend going to a running shop with you're old running shoes and see if they are realy the right shoes for you.

Depending on you feet, bodyweight and running patern they will propose differen types of shoes.

It is realy important to have decent running shoes as the wrong shoe could lead to serious injuries.

I simply just let water run over them while they're in the sink, and then I tap it and bang it to get things out, because I don't want any of that stuff on my hands. Then I use my hair blow dryer to dry them.

Reply:Doesn't everyone wash them?

Reply:I swim with mine on when its spring or summer out, the chlorine keeps them nice and clean, and at the same time it's a good workout for my legs!

Reply:Yes, I wash them in the machine. Sometimes I have to scrub the soles with a toothbrush to get them clean, but the machine works well. Don't put them in the dryer though, if they are leather.

I cannot stand dirty tennis shoes, so I would rather take the chance that they might fall apart than have dirty shoes. Never had any fall apart yet and been washing them for about 10 years.
Reply:No really, washing them harms the look of shoes. What I do is that I try to keep them clean.
Reply:uhh... not normally... if you really honestly wanted them clean... i sugest washing them with like a wet parer towel %26amp; just wash the lases... thats what i do with mine... but it really depends on the material on the tennis shoes

Why are they called tennis shoes?

Now we have real nice shoes that have good soles and support to play tennis or run.
Reply:I dont wear tennis shoes, I wear sneakers.
Reply:shoes without a heel are tennis shoes...so a flat sole is a tennis shoe
Reply:The shoes that we call tennis shoes originally were worn by folks who played tennis, then they evolved to the specific trainers we have today.
Reply:there called tennis shoes because the actual first "sneaker" was made by k-swiss, and was made for tennis, after that they started making "sneakers" for all different purposes.
Reply:Because people wear them when they're playing tennis.
Reply:Tennis shoes or trainers is how English(UK) people call sneakers.Americans call it sneakers,in London people do refer to them as trainers or tennis shoes, sneakers is also accepted.Don't be mistaken, they are they same thing.Find an Oxford or Longman dictionary with pictures and you will find it under shoes page.Former British colonies also use the same name.

Can I wash my tennis shoes in the washing machine...Will I reck them?

I've done it many times and it works great! You'll be amazed. I usually throw mine in with a load of towels so I don't have to listen to them bang around in there. Air dry them though, don't put them in the clothes dryer.

Can I wash my tennis shoes in the washing machine...Will I reck them?
yes, gentle cycle, it can make them like new.
Reply:i put mine in a pillow case ..they come clean and they don't bounce around and make sooo much noise in the dryer:)
Reply:No, it won't wreck them. With my white shoes, however I use the liquid dishwasher soap on them with an old toothbrush first. It gets all the black marks off and they look like brand new. It also will not hurt them to go in the dryer. I do mine at least once a month with no problems.
Reply:If your shoes are a reasonable size, they should wash well with a small load of towels. Use a front loading machine if at all possible because of the uneven weight, the shoes may disrupt the even spin and throw the machine off balance! Never dry them in the dryer! As a former owner of a coin laundry, I've replaced more dryer parts than I care to recall as a result of shoes banging around inside. Air drying is recommended.
Reply:it depends on what they are made from, if they are canvas then there is no problem. If they are leather - and this applies to most white leather shoes, then you can cover the black scuff marks with liquid paper [you can get it at any drug store or stationery shop, i.e. the type you use to cover typing mistakes on a page

Should I use my tennis shoes for running?
I have been running for 8 years now. Though I am biased towards Nike as a brand, I would recommend you to go to a running-specific store, like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC. They can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necessarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. But after you get the correct shoes or even if you haven't, I would go to any major athletics store and ask the sales associates because they are getting paid to know the products they are selling. Good luck!!!

Are chuck taylors considered tennis shoes?

can I use them while playing on my schools court?

Are chuck taylors considered tennis shoes?
People still wear those?

Where do you live? Those went out forever ago here, lol.

Well, when I was in school, people wore them all the time on the gym court. They aren't the best shoes to wear during gym activities, because they have absolutely no support. Your feet may become cramped, or will feel like ants are biting them.

Just be sure they aren't tied too tight, loosen them up a bit.
Reply:Out of personal experience I found out that there are tennis shoes and court shoes. Tennis shoes are basically the general name of any shoe for any purpose. Court Shoes are very often the name of a shoe to play tennis in.

But Chuck Taylors are not for playing tennis. My friend use to wear them when she was taking beginner classes and even without running alot or not doing alot of any other physical work, she'd complain that her feet would hurt.

If you want a shoe to play tennis you often have to ask for a court shoe, that would often be better.
Reply:Do they have black soles? If the bottoms aren't white, or light pink, you can't wear them on a tennis court. Some jerks still do and they mess up the court. Some clubs won't allow it, and are strict about it. Its really sloppy and boorish if they're black soles.

Now, the other thing, is if they are tennis shoes, then you want good support for side to side movement, and also lots of toe room so when you jam forward, you don't injure your toes. Otherwise you might wear out your sneakers really fast. Wilson makes excellent shoes, and I'd recommend them for tennis if you have to chose new ones.
Reply:No, they are basketball shoes, with no support. Back when I played basketball in high school and part of college, that's what we wore. It was the only tennis shoe out, and a pair cost around $13.
Reply:they're pretty much the worst shoes for sport

u cant really use them for any sport

only if you consider skating a sport then thats the exception
Reply:No. I actually got fussed at for wearing them to practice once. :]

They don't provide any support to your ankles. When you're jolting back and forth to get the balls, you need a lot of support so that you don't roll/sprain your ankles.
Reply:i wouldn't say they are appropriate. today's tennis you need support in the shoes....whether the ankles(to keep from rolling over chasing down a ball),the arch, the forefoot or the ball....it would be too detremental to your feet to play in shoes like those. invest in a good pair of tennis specific sneaks. you don't have to wear the expensive sort that the top pros wear they have affordable, decent shoes available.

Can you wear regular tennis shoes for the snow?
Sure, if u want cold wet feet. Knock urself out. I see idiots wearing flipflops in the snow. Go figure!
Reply:sure, lol i wouldnt let them get too soaked tho
Reply:I would say no..... I was wearing a pair of tennis shoes this week and fell 3 times. They are very slippery and don't have much traction. I love them because they are so comfortable but I'm not sure they are quite worth the broken neck I almost got!
Reply:of course. you should try basketball shoes like t-mac 5's or vince carter shox. those are the shoes i consider as my "snow boots"
Reply:Yes you can wear regular tennis shoes in the snow. May I suggest using plastic bread bags over your socks before you put your shoes on? It does keep your feet really warm and dry.

Would a pair of tennis shoes be ok for a 2 day backpack camping trip in the mountains?

Probably. As long as you're talking about a decent pair of running, cross training or hiking shoes made of nylon with maybe a little suede, and some type of tread on the bottom, not skate shoes or casual shoes?

The thing to consider is how much weight you'll be carrying. Hiking in light shoes is only recommended when you're carrying less than 30 or 40 lbs of gear. For a woman I would go with shoes if you're carrying under 30, but I don't even let my wife carry more than 20 lbs, including food and water.

Twisting your ankle is caused by carrying too much gear and plodding along and simply not watching where you step. I've been wearing sandals and running shoes hiking since 1996 when I gave up on hiking boots, and lightening my gear every year as well, and I've never twisted anything.

In addition to a much lighter load on your feet and extra energy from that, you probably won't have to worry about blisters while hiking in shoes. Moleskin, what's that? I don't get blisters anymore, even after 21 mile day hikes.

You'll also need socks and I recommend simple 1 oz. "dress" socks made of 100% polyester or nylon which you can get at Wal-Mart or other department store. I carry two pairs and switch half way through the day, washing one pair and letting it dry hanging from my backpack.

You won't need a second pair of shoes if your first pair is light enough to dry overnight. And even if it does get damp, which mine always do, since I tend to just walk through streams without taking off socks or shoes, they will dry on the trail, especially with thin socks.

Would a pair of tennis shoes be ok for a 2 day backpack camping trip in the mountains?
You should really wear boots, if you roll an ankle you may find yourself unable to walk out. At least a boot will protect from totally ******* it up, and it can be tightened down to help suppot an injured ankle. Also, they're warmer.
Reply:yes
Reply:If the trail was paved. You need ankle support and arch support. You also may need warmth. Athletic shoes are also slippery on rocks, gravel and grass.

Get a decent pair of hiking boots.
Reply:i wouldn't take "tennis" shoes but a if you don't want to go and buy big heavy boots you could go and get some good trail running shoes. they will have a better grip on the bottom the your tennis shoes. you'll need that esp. in the mountains where the terrain can get steep. also with trail runner shoes your less likely to get the blisters unbroken in boots will give you.
Reply:It depends on what you mean by "camping". If you drive to a campsite and set the tent up 3 feet from the trunk of the car, and spend the next two days throwing rocks in the water, drinking beer and hanging out, then yeah.

If you mean putting 2 days worth of food, water and equipment on your back and walking up and down hills that are this %26gt;%26lt; far from being cliffs, absolutely NOT.

As other posters have indicated hiking boots give stability to the ankle and provide at least some degree of waterproofness.

Also make sure the boots fit right. Go boot shopping at the end of the day, and walk around for a while first. This will ensure that your feet are about as swollen as they will get and make sure you don't get a boot that is too small. You can tighten up a loose boot a lot easier than loosening a tight one.

Pack your tennys for after you're done hiking for the day to let both your boots and your feet air out a bit.

Have fun.
Reply:get some hiking boots, they're the best for camping!
Reply:A lot of long distance hikers use running shoes or the like to save on weight. Heavy boots, while providing more support, will fatigue your legs more. I like mid range boots for most things. I believe it's a tradeoff. If you are a smart packer and have less than a 25 pound pack, and you aren't doing any hardcore scrambling, running shoes or approach shoes should be okay. Being aware of your footing, using decent trails, and being in shape matter, too.
Reply:Camping yes...hiking maybe(trail?).......climbing NO
Reply:it all depends if you are going to play tennis !! personally i've never played tennis in hiking boots either, nothing like twisting or breaking an ankle two days walk out in the bush , i suppose you could slide home on the tennis racket
Reply:depends on the climate...but great for hiking....just dont roll your ankle....and i would take a 2nd pair of shoes so if they get wet, in rain or water. You can change them out.
Reply:There are a lot of possible answers to this question, mostly because there are so many variables! Are you used to hiking in tennis-shoes? Do you have a good pair of hiking boots but don't want to bring them in case you don't need them? What kind of hiking are you going to be doing?

I bring sneakers, boots and flip flops when I go camping- each has their uses and you have the option of swtiching from one pair to another.

Some have suggested at going out and buying a good pair of hiking boots if you don't already have them- good idea- but I cringe at the thought of hiking in a new pair of boots- which almost always means painful blisters! If you can, wait until you've broken them in to fit you foot before you go on any long hikes. If you can't do that, bring lots of large, good quality band-aids. I've had some luck with putting the bandaids over the sections of my feet that usually end up blistered when I wear new boots and that helps to prevent them from forming - it saves a lot of grief later on! Good luck!
Reply:Probably not. I would suggest a pair of light to medium hiking boots. Wear them around for a few day before your trip to break them in. Make sure you wear good hiking socks. If your feet get wet change your socks. Don't use cotton socks as they will cause blisters. Make sure your boots fit properly and your feet don't slide around. Keep them laced tight. When you rest, take off your boots anf check your feet.
Reply:Maybe. Depends on how good the trails are and how much hiking and climbing you plan on doing. It might be better to invest in some hiking boots though.
Reply:Actual Tennis Shoes...no. Running shoes or Basketball shoes...yes. The basketball shoes give good support but have lousy traction. If it's muddy, expect to slip. The running shoes would be better. Many Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers wear trail running shoes.

Lightweight boots would be the best, but if it's your first time backpacking, don't blow the bucks on the boots until you know you want to do it again.

You do NOT want tennis shoes for kick boxing. You want floor shoes. You can purchase them in a variety of styles from several martial arts outlets. In fact Black Belt magazine advertises them regularly.

Can you put sneakers/tennis shoes in the washing machine?

The sneakers I'm willing to have machine-washed are NB, made of plastic and cloth.

Can you put sneakers/tennis shoes in the washing machine?
YES U CAN...I wouldn't recommend putting them in the dryer though,it is best to set them out %26amp; let them dry...

I have added instructions if u want them!

How to Wash Shoes

This will explain some simple steps for washing your tennis shoes in a washing machine.

Steps - Unlace your shoes.

Clean off any excess mud or dirt that can be brushed off easily.

Place your shoes and shoe laces in the washer, along with some towels or blankets.

Add your favorite flavor of detergent.

Set water temperature to cold and start (shoes shouldn't shrink, but this will help to keep the colors from fading)

Take the shoes out once they are finished and place in sun to dry. Make sure that they

Relace and wear those "like new" shoes!

Tips - Washing your shoes with towels or blankets will prevent the dryer from getting off balance.

Drying your shoes in the sun may take a few days, depending on how thick they are.

If you do not feel comfortable washing your shoes in the washer, you can also scrub them in the sink with soap and a brush.
Reply:Not to be flip but if the washer door is big enough, you can put them in there. You can even wash them if you want and they'll be fine.
Reply:Many can be. Put them in an old pillow case and tie it closed. Run them through the wash and then let them air dry (no dryer).

Some cheaply made shoes will come unglued after washing, but the better brands should withstand it okay. I've washed my Nikes before.
Reply:u can but it depends
Reply:yes but put them inside a pillowcase together first
Reply:I've washed sneakers, yeah!
Reply:Yes. I wash mine every once in awhile. I do not dry them though. I put them out and pull the toungue out as far as I can and let them air dry. Drying the shoes will loosen seams and the shoe will tear up quicker.
Reply:Yes you can, but take the laces out of them as they will some times get wrapped under the middle of the washer and it will be a mess.

Pretty much most can be done this way. You can also dry them in the dryer. I prefer to use the kind of dryer where they sit flat on a plat form and do not flop around inside of the dryer. This machine has a flat plat form where the shoes stay there as they dry, you can not put any thing else in the dryer with them while they are drying. I have one of these machines and they are great.
Reply:Yeah but I wouldn't put them in the dryer... try stuffing them when they come out with newspaper and letting them air dry
