Why do they call shoes that tie tennis shoes if we don't play tennis in them?

I have wondered that a long time.

Why do they call shoes that tie tennis shoes if we don't play tennis in them?
Many years ago.. tennis players needed shoes.. that would grip the cement in quick stops to hit the ball w/o sliding down and skinning up their body..

they had rubber sole shoes..

but some one came out w/ the new version of the tennis shoes..

which caught on..

and so they were called tennie shoes.. LOL

take care of ur self hope u r feeling better..
