Should I buy a tennis shoes if I want to play tennis?

It really depends on what your plans are. If you plan to play tennis once or twice, I would say no. However, if you plan to play long term (1 month +) I would strongly advise you to buy them. Why? They provide more grip on the surface of a tennis court to prevent slipping and falling as well as better support for your ankles. Tennis shoes CAN get pricey. The cheaper, lower-end ones will benefit you if you have a slim budget, but beware, they DO NOT last long.

Make sure, if you're playing tennis with a normal running shoe, that it does not leave markings on the surface of the court. You can test this by rubbing the side of the sole against the court. If it leaves a black/blue mark, do not use them. If it leaves a clear, whitish mark, you should be alright.

definitely. on average sports shoes, the soles wear through exponentially quicker than tennis shoes. I play regularly, and I went through sport shoes in about a month, while my current tennis shoes have lasted since about August last year, and still going strong.

If you're only looking to play socially, then low-end shoes will definitely suit you. However, if you want to play competitively, and are looking for grip, weight, balance etc. the shoes will probably be around $100AUD

Hope this helps :)
Reply:i know some awesome players who where slippers, sandals and some who play barefoot, but during a tournament where it is required to where tennis shoes.

well.......you can say it was like I was watching a beginner trying to win a game against a pro.

so its up to you whether you still want to buy them or not.
Reply:yeah otherwise u might *** up ur feet. When i started playing I got really really sore feet just wearing my running shoes, but havent had any probs since I've switched to tennis shoes. You don't need expensive ones, anything around $100 will do.

o yeah the guy below me if right that cheap ones dont last long, ive gone thru 3 pairs in a year. but i do play alot so maybe thats not so bad.
Reply:yes. tennis shoes provide better ankle support than normal sneakers, and other kinds of shoes can damage the court surface.

plus normal shoes will wear out faster because they are not specifically reinforced like tennis shoes (like in the toe, where people tend to drag)
Reply:do whatever you can to improve your game, that's what I always say!
Reply:no, i think any kind of closed toe, lace-up, with heal should be just fine. (NO Sandal LIKE SHOES!!)
