Why are they called tennis shoes?

I just heard it around school.

Why are they called tennis shoes?
they r called tennis shoes because they were made for playing tennis in them. sneakers are more for basketball and other sports like that but tennis has its own type of shoe....but they are basically all the same thing.

Now we have real nice shoes that have good soles and support to play tennis or run.

Reply:Tennis shoes or trainers is how English(UK) people call sneakers.Americans call it sneakers,in London people do refer to them as trainers or tennis shoes,sneakers is also accepted.Don't be mistaken,they are they same thing.Find an Oxford or Longman dictionary with pictures and you will find it under shoes page.Former British colonies also use the same name.
