Most people have many misconceptions about this and don't really know what it means. So its about time this old G schools some of you young pups out there about the burbs. In the Barrio, a pair of colored Nikes would let a rival gang know that they are entering anothers turf. It was also a way for drug dealers to communicate by saying don't push your stuff on my users. Since then, you get young kids throwing up shoes of every style just because they are copying what they see. Gangs don't just throw them up at random to mark their territory like some damn road sign. They do so only after a confirmed sighting by someone they trust. Well the real gangs anyway, not the school yard cliques. This message tells the real gangs that if we catch you movin' in on our turf-- your going down! I could tell you a lot more about how things work, and how shot callers make decisions but that would be divulging more 411 than you need to know.
What does it mean for tennis shoes to be thrown across power lines in front of road ways?
It means an adolescent with an unwanted pair of sneakers and nothing better to do was previously in the neighborhood.

Reply:Airport security lost and found (they keep the laptops, cell phones, belts, wallets and half eaten Snicker bars).
Reply:I think it is to get good luck, people do it all the time. I see shoes on trees too. It is kinda weird, but it could also be to just mess with someones mind and throw their shoes up there to make them mad.
Reply:somebody got mugged after school or someone doesn't want their sneaks =)
Reply:People do that to their old tennis shoes and to mess around with other people. It's very difficult to get your shoes down from there.
Reply:Now, it's pretty much to signify a drug dealer.
