What does it mean when tennis shoes are hanging on the telephone line?

I don't know...it's so odd. i think it's kids messing around and seeing if they can get their shoes stuck up there. geezz...i hope it doesn't mean somebody got beat up because that's a lot of people!!

It means different things in different areas. I've lived in NY state and it always meant you were in a drug block...come and purchase what you want, just pick a house.





When I lived in Illinois, it either meant pick up your drugs here


(where the shoes were hanging above), or it marked some gang territory.








Where I live now, it usually means some kid tossed them up there.
Reply:I always heard that it meant that the house that the shoes were in front of was a place where you can get drugs. Where I'm from, in the southwest GA/northwest FL area, it almost always means a meth lab. :\ But that's just the word on the street. lol I don't know if it's true or not.
Reply:It is to give respect to the person whose shoes they were. Sometimes it is because they got beaten up. Sometimes it is because they have died. I believe.

I'ts more of an ol' skool thing, but kids still do it, kids did it alot at pools while I was growing up, but now, with the cost of Jordans, it's a lil' more serious.
Reply:i have heard that it means, a death on that block. Someone takes a pair of shoes of the one that died, and tosses them up on the telephone line. In memory of the lost one. It could be different everywhere though.
Reply:In the 1950s it is where we tossed our gym sneakers on the last day of school. but at the prices of sneakers today I don't think it is a good idea.
