How do you wash tennis shoes in the washer?

I suggest you don't do it. No matter what you do, you risk ruining your shoes. When I was a kid, my mom tried washing my shoes in the washing machine and letting them air dry, and they shrunk so much where it was uncomfortable to wear. Plus, they don't hold their shape once you've washed them in the washer. It's best to clean your shoes by hand. Sof Sole Instant Cleaner is a great shoe cleaner. Its a spray on foam and the cap has a built in scrub brush, so you just scrub it to remove the excess dirt and gunk and wipe it off. It's easy and it works well.

Put them in a pillow case and then wash some towels w/ them so the washer doesn't get out of balance.
Reply:Every pair of tennis shoes I've owned for the last 10 years have been machine washable. I had a pair of soft leather Reeboks one time that didn't wash well, but other than that one pair, I've never had a problem just throwing them in the washer with some light colored towels (if they are white) or jeans (for the darker shoes). I hang mine outside to dry, but if you can't do that, they will dry in a couple of days in the house.
Reply:I take the shoe laces out and wash them on a gentle cycle.
Reply:I just throw mine in with either the white clothes or towels depending on whether or not I*m using bleach. I don*t throw them in the dryer though in case they may shrink.

I just put them on top of the dryer for a few days and let them air dry. If you have safe back porch you could put them out there, I don*t because mine is open and I don*t want some stray dog carrying my shoes off.
